Go Down Loss of life by James Weldon Johnson

(A Funeral Sermon)
Weep not, weep not,
She will not be lifeless;
She’s resting within the bosom of Jesus.
Coronary heart-broken husband–weep no extra;
Grief-stricken son–weep no extra;
Left-lonesome daughter –weep no extra;
She solely simply gone dwelling.

Day earlier than yesterday morning,
God was wanting down from his nice, excessive heaven,
Trying down on all his kids,
And his eye fell on Sister Caroline,
Tossing on her mattress of ache.
And God’s huge coronary heart was touched with pity,
With the eternal pity.

And God sat again on his throne,
And he commanded that tall, vibrant angel standing at his proper hand:
Name me Loss of life!
And that tall, vibrant angel cried in a voice
That broke like a clap of thunder:
Name Loss of life!–Name Loss of life!
And the echo sounded down the streets of heaven
Until it reached away again to that shadowy place,
The place Loss of life waits together with his pale, white horses.

And Loss of life heard the summons,
And he leaped on his quickest horse,
Pale as a sheet within the moonlight.
Up the golden avenue Loss of life galloped,
And the hooves of his horses struck hearth from the gold,
However they did not make no sound.
Up Loss of life rode to the Nice White Throne,
And waited for God’s command.

And God mentioned: Go down, Loss of life, go down,
Go right down to Savannah, Georgia,
Down in Yamacraw,
And discover Sister Caroline.
She’s borne the burden and warmth of the day,
She’s labored lengthy in my winery,
And he or she’s tired–
She’s weary–
Go down, Loss of life, and produce her to me.

And Loss of life did not say a phrase,
However he loosed the reins on his pale, white horse,
And he clamped the spurs to his cold sides,
And out and down he rode,
By heaven’s pearly gates,
Previous suns and moons and stars;
on Loss of life rode,
Leaving the lightning’s flash behind;
Straight down he got here.

Whereas we have been watching around her mattress,
She turned her eyes and regarded away,
She noticed what we could not see;
She noticed Outdated Loss of life.  She noticed Outdated Loss of life
Coming like a falling star.
However Loss of life did not frighten Sister Caroline;
He regarded to her like a welcome pal.
And he or she whispered to us: I am going dwelling,
And he or she smiled and closed her eyes.

And Loss of life took her up like a child,
And he or she lay in his icy arms,
However she did not really feel no chill.
And loss of life started to journey again–
Up past the night star,
Into the glittering gentle of glory,
On to the Nice White Throne.
And there he laid Sister Caroline
On the loving breast of Jesus.

And Jesus took his personal hand and wiped away her tears,
And he smoothed the furrows from her face,
And the angels sang a bit of track,
And Jesus rocked her in his arms,
And saved a-saying: Take your relaxation,
Take your relaxation.

Weep not–weep not,
She will not be lifeless;
She’s resting within the bosom of Jesus.
